Dance fierce. Dance proud.
Dance Irish. ☘

Come and join our Irish dance classes in Ardrossan, Troon and Glasgow, taught by former lead dancer and dance captain of Lord of the Dance.

About Us

Founded in 2013 by Sarah Frances Smith, TCRG, the Sarah Frances Smith School of Irish Dancing is dedicated to sharing the beauty, skill, and spirit of traditional Irish dance.

Sarah, a former lead dancer and Dance Captain with Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, brings world-class experience and passion to every class. The school is registered with An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG), ensuring the highest standards of teaching and performance.

We welcome dancers of all ages and levels — from beginners taking their first steps to experienced competitors. Classes are available in Glasgow, Ardrossan, and Troon, offering both solo and céilí (team) dancing.

At the Sarah Frances Smith School of Irish Dancing, our mission is to build confidence, nurture talent, and celebrate the joy of Irish dance within a friendly, supportive community.

Group Dance Lessons

Our group classes provide a lively, social environment where dancers can learn together, develop teamwork, and be inspired by one another’s progress. These sessions focus on building strong foundational technique, rhythm, and stage presence while promoting camaraderie and fun. Group lessons are ideal for dancers preparing for performances, feiseanna (competitions), and céilí events, as well as those who simply want to enjoy the shared energy of dancing in a group.

One-to-One Training

For dancers looking for personalised attention and tailored instruction, we also offer one-to-one lessons. These sessions allow Sarah to work closely with each dancer to refine technique, enhance precision, and develop individual goals — whether preparing for competitive solo rounds, examinations, or personal improvement. Private coaching provides the opportunity to focus on specific steps, choreography, and performance skills in a focused, encouraging setting.

Whether you’re stepping onto the dance floor for the first time or aiming to compete at the highest level, the Sarah Frances Smith School of Irish Dancing provides the guidance, support, and inspiration to help every dancer reach their full potential.

Our Team

We have an amazing team of Irish Dance Teachers, Leaders and Helpers who bring the rhythm, spirit, and joy of Irish dance to life!

Sarah Frances Smith
Principal Dance Teacher

Sarah has danced almost all her life, placing in the top three at major competitions. In 1997, she joined Lord of the Dance, touring the world, performing all three female lead roles, and working as a dance captain. Sarah started her own dance school in 2013 and absolutely loves sharing her passion for Irish dancing with her students.

Mrs McCusker
Dance Teacher

Mrs McCusker is an absolute pillar in the Irish dance community. She has dedicated many, many years to our art form and greatly enjoys passing on her knowledge to our dancers. She is the calm in any storm and a great source of encouragement to all dancers.

Erin
Dance Leader

Erin began dancing as a tiny 3 year old. Her talent was evident from that very young age with her quickly winning championships. Erin has recalled in all major championships and has achieved many fantastic placements, most notably, being ranked 3rd & 5th in the world from one adjudicator. Erin is a great help to our younger dancers who all look up to her very much.

Damien
Dance Leader

Damien began dancing at age eight and excelled from day one. He is currently ranked 13th in the world, an outstanding achievement that makes his teachers extremely proud, while balancing his studies at the University of Glasgow with intensive training. A talented dancer and fantastic ambassador for our class, Damien is patient, encouraging, and a wonderful role model for our younger dancers.

Ailish
Dance Helper

Ailish was lucky enough to learn Irish dancing in primary school in Ireland, and says, “Irish dancing is a fun and engaging way to stay active and share experiences. I enjoy helping little ones in class to discover their own passion and potential.”

Frankie
🐾

“I don’t have two left feet — I’ve got four right paws. I take my Irish dancing seriously… until someone drops a snack, then it’s game over”
